The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has begun a preliminary investigation into a document claiming that Asokwa MP and Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei returned Ghc70,000 regarding the vetting of nominees by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
The OSP said it is investigating the authenticity of the document, the source of the money and its purpose.
It has also invited Appiagyei to assist with the investigation.
The OSP said the document raises concerns because of its reference to the source of the funds and what it described as possible hallmarks of extortion.
The OSP said it is “actively investigating all extortion allegations involving Members of Parliament.”
