Police Arrest NPP Organiser Over Unreturned Party Pickup

Police have arrested New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Organiser Charles Taleog Ndanbon for refusing to surrender a party pickup assigned to the Nabdam constituency near Bolgatanga.

The arrest near the Bolgatanga High Court ended a standoff that had dragged on for more than 20 months. Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo, a lawyer, called in the Ghana Police Service after memos, family appeals and an internal probe failed to recover the vehicle.

Ahead of the 2024 General Elections, NPP headquarters gave one pickup to each of the 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region. Parliamentary candidates collected the vehicles in Accra before their constituency chairmen, on the understanding that each would go back to the relevant Constituency Executive Committee by December 9, 2024.

Fourteen constituencies handed back their vehicles. Only Ndanbon, the party’s 2024 candidate for Nabdam, held on to the keys.

When he appeared at a Regional Executive Committee (REC) meeting on April 9, 2026 after a long absence, Ndanbon said the pickup had broken down. He also suggested that his role as a regional officer entitled him to keep using it, even though the vehicle belonged to the constituency.

A committee sent to his home found a clutch fault. By May 5, 2026 the pickup was back on the streets of Bolgatanga with Ndanbon at the wheel. He again refused to release it when party representatives came to collect it, insisting he had clearance from senior figures to continue using it. The REC disputed that claim.

With talks exhausted, Namoo and the committee filed a police report. In a letter to the General Secretary, he branded the organiser’s conduct defiant and accused him of denying Nabdam its vehicle for over 20 months, noting that Ndanbon already owned a personal pickup and other vehicles.

“This is gross misconduct and insubordination,” Namoo wrote, adding that the party had to act to protect its property and enforce discipline.

Police later arrested Ndanbon and granted him bail after the pickup was produced at the Upper East Regional Police Command. The Changan Hunter has since been handed to the party and returned to the Nabdam Constituency Executive Committee.
