Pressure is mounting on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fire the Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Mr Alhassan Yakubu-Tali, to dissolve the Board and conduct investigations into the operations of the bank.
The calls follow recent allegations of extortion against the resigned Board Chairman of the Bank Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II had come under attack after a Customer of the Bank, Collins Darkwa petitioned the Office of the President alleging that the Board Chairman who doubles as the Kwahumanhene extorted a significant amount of money from him in exchange for a 12 million Ghana cedis loan.
The Businessman detailed in his petition how the Board Chairman demanded GHc50,000.00 up front and further loan from him for the approval of the 12 million Ghana cedis and appealed to the Presidency to help him recover a total amount of GHc2,408,000.00 from the Board Chairman.
“Under pressure from my suppliers to procure logistics for the cashew to be supplied, I had no other choice than to agree to the conditions”, Mr Darkwa said.
In view of the seriousness of the allegation, the Board Chairman on the orders of the Central Bank was forced to resign.
The Bank in a statement confirming the resignation said “ADB announces for the information of the general investing public, the resignation of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, an Independent Non-Executive Director, of the Bank. His resignation took effect on October 11. 2024”
A private citizen who is unhappy about happenings is however lacing his boots to petition the President for the sack of the MD, dissolution of the Board and to pave the way for investigations of loans that were granted to companies and individuals under the tenure of the resigned Board Chairman.
He hinted this portal that plans were far advanced to drag the resigned Board Chairman and others before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
“I am petitioning the President to sack the MD under whose watch this scandal occurred. I would be demanding that the Board be dissolved and thorough investigations into loans granted to individuals and companies within the period the resigned Board Chairman also looked into. Those letters you see here are meant to be forwarded to the Presidency. I am just waiting for my lawyers. We shall be engaging some civil society organisations as well”, the petitioner pleaded strict anonymity for now disclosed.
