Public Opinion Won’t Move Us – Supreme Court Judge

Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Richard Adjei-Frimpong, says judges make decisions based solely on the Constitution, the law, and the evidence presented before the court, not on public opinion or external commentary.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Justice Adjei-Frimpong explained that it is inevitable for one party in a legal dispute to be dissatisfied with a court’s decision, which may result in criticism of the judiciary.

“Our ruling goes against one party, and the party that loses will definitely have grievances against the court that made the ruling,” he said.

He noted that such reactions are a normal consequence of judicial proceedings and should not influence the work of judges.

“We do not listen to what people say outside the courtroom. As judges, we are guided only by the Constitution and the evidence before us,” he stated.

Justice Adjei-Frimpong stressed that allowing external opinions to affect judicial decision-making would undermine the courts’ ability to administer justice impartially.

“If we listen to what is said outside, we might not be able to work effectively,” he added.

He reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to deciding cases independently and in accordance with the law, regardless of public or political reactions.
