Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena has been confirmed as the heir to the Kantanka Empire following the reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka in court on Monday, July 7, 2026.
The reading settles the question of succession to the Kantanka Group of Companies, founded by the late industrialist and leader of the Kristo Asafo Church, who passed away on September 11, 2025.
Apostle Safo’s death triggered a dispute over leadership of the empire between Akofena, who had been serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Kantanka Group, and his elder sister and former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Adwoa Safo.
The tension between both sides escalated in June when a confrontation occurred at Akofena’s residence in Dome Kwabenya during a planned installation ceremony. According to a family account, Adwoa Safo was shot while attempting to enter the premises and was later hospitalised with injuries.
Following the incident, Akofena and some of his security personnel were arrested and later granted bail.
