Former presidential staffer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has also questioned government assertions about the strength of the economy, calling for clearer evidence to support such claims.
He drew a distinction between progress toward resilience and achieving it fully.
“There is a difference between saying we are becoming resilient and saying we are resilient,” he said. “The government’s position now is that we are resilient.”
He asked for specific examples of policies or measures that demonstrate structural change.
“Whilst the government is touting all these things, can they show us specifically what has been put in place?” he said on Newsfile on JoyNews.
Aboagye further stated that some economic indicators appear to be influenced by external programmes rather than internal policy strength.
“All the macroeconomic indicators you are mentioning have been anchored in the gold buying programme,” he said. “You are relying on external factors.”
He also commented on fuel pricing, noting that only certain components are directly controlled by government.
“When we said fuel prices have little to do with what the government has done, the evidence shows that only small components are within their control,” he stated.
He concluded by urging a focus on measurable outcomes.
“The President should take it easy. He has already won an election. He does not need to tell us things to make us happy. He just has to work,” he said.
