Some didn’t apply, others skipped interviews and medicals – Felix Kwakye Ofosu justifies mass sacking

Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has justified President John Mahama’s decision to annul all public sector appointments made after the December 7, 2024 elections.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, he argued that the appointments violated due process and could not be allowed to stand.

“We have looked into the matter and found that due process was bypassed in the appointments that were made.

Some didn’t put in any application at all, others didn’t go through interviews, and some who should have gone through medical examinations didn’t go through,” he stated.

According to him, there were instances of backdated appointment letters, though affected individuals had not received salaries since their employment.

“To that extent, we deem them unlawful and illegal. And as a government, we cannot afford a situation where people are illegally recruited into the public and civil service without due process.”

Kwakye Ofosu also claimed that various ministries and state agencies under the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration were “feverishly employing people in the dying embers” of their tenure, a move he believes was fiscally irresponsible given Ghana’s economic challenges.

“We expressed concern about this because we knew it was going to have an impact on our fiscal position, especially at a time when the country was struggling,” he noted.
