Spain reached the World Cup final for the first time since winning the tournament in 2010 after beating 2022 runners-up France 2-0 in the semi-finals on July 14.
At the AT&T Stadium in Texas, Spain took the lead in the 22nd minute through a penalty scored by Mikel Oyarzabal after Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal.
Oyarzabal calmly scored past goalkeeper Mike Maignan for his fifth goal of the tournament.
It was the first time France had gone behind at this World Cup. Things got worse for them eight minutes later when defender William Saliba went off with an injury.
Spain were the better team throughout the match. Their strong defence stopped France’s attack, led by Kylian Mbappe, which had scored 15 goals in five matches before the semi-final.
Spain scored their second goal in the 58th minute when Pedro Porro finished a good one-two pass with Dani Olmo near the edge of the penalty area. It was only the second international goal of Porro’s career.
Spain will now play either England or Argentina, who meet in the other semi-final on July 15, in the World Cup final on July 19.
