A political storm is brewing in Nandom after the CEO of the defunct DKM Diamond Microfinance Company, Martin Kuudeni Delle, publicly told former Interior Minister Hon. Ambrose P. Dery to bow out of the parliamentary race and hand the seat to a new generation.
Delle, an outspoken and active grassroots member of the NPP in the constituency, did not mince words. Reacting to news that Dery intends to contest the Nandom seat again in 2028, he fired off a blunt appeal: “Hon Ambrose Dery, please hold on, we are the young guys please please.”
It wasn’t just talk. Delle backed his challenge with a flier pairing his own image with that of NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a not-so-subtle signal that he sees himself, not the veteran lawmaker, as the party’s next standard-bearer in Nandom. Insiders say it is now an open secret that the businessman is lacing up his boots for a shot at the seat once NPP nominations open, setting the stage for a heated internal battle before the party has even named its candidate.
But Dery is showing no signs of stepping back. The former MP has doubled down, declaring his intention to reclaim the Nandom seat in the 2028 general elections, a seat currently held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which the NPP is desperate to win back.
Speaking on Nandom FM on Monday, August 10, Dery insisted the decision was bigger than politics it was a calling. He said he had prayed over it before offering himself to the NPP for consideration.
“I have responded to the calls from my constituents and supporters, particularly the people of Nandom, and I have decided to offer myself to the party for consideration,” he said.
Dery credited his years of public service to divine grace, framing his return not as ambition, but as duty.
With a battle-tested former minister squaring off against a brash young challenger throwing down the gauntlet in public, the race for the NPP’s Nandom ticket is shaping up to be one of the party’s most closely watched internal contests ahead of 2028.
