MC and media personality MC Portfolio has suggested that the ongoing tension between Sarkodie and Samini may have been triggered by competition surrounding the Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Decade recognition.
Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, MC Portfolio said he “confidently” suspected that the award could be one of the underlying factors behind the disagreement between the two veteran artistes.
“I confidently suspect the Samini-Sarkodie beef is triggered by the TGMA Artiste of the Decade award,” he said.
Rather than focusing solely on the disagreement, however, MC Portfolio praised Sarkodie for what he described as a strategic approach to his music career, particularly his ability to make commercially calculated decisions.
“We have to applaud Sarkodie for his business sense of music,” he stated.
According to him, Sarkodie has distinguished himself through strategic collaborations, careful beat selection and his ability to adapt his musical identity to different generations without losing his established persona.
“If Sarkodie has anything over all the artistes in Africa, they are strategic collaborations and beat selection. He knows the right type of beat for any selection,” MC Portfolio explained.
He added that Sarkodie had also demonstrated the ability to remain relevant across generations while maintaining his distinctive identity, describing the timing of his responses to industry developments as part of his broader strategic approach.
“He knows how to carry himself to fit every generation whilst still carrying his own aura, and also the timing of his responses; it’s always a business decision,” he said.
