The resolution will pass – Oliver Barker-Vormawor predicts UN backing for Ghana’s proposal

Anti-corruption campaigner Oliver Barker-Vormawor has mentioned that he expects Ghana’s resolution on the transatlantic slave trade to secure approval at the United Nations General Assembly.

Sharing his outlook ahead of the vote, he stated, “The resolution will pass. Of that I am confident.”

He projected a strong outcome, estimating “around 120 yes votes, 40 abstentions, and about 10 against.”

Barker-Vormawor explained that his confidence is based on voting patterns he has observed over the years.

He noted that the African bloc is likely to deliver full support, describing it as a key factor in the numbers.

He also pointed to broader global dynamics, saying the moment stands out compared to past efforts.

“I have spent years working in these UN halls… today feels different,” he said, adding that the significance lies in the resolution being led by Ghana.
