This place is f**king with my mental health – Nigerian woman laments electricity crisis

A Nigerian woman has criticised the country’s electricity situation, saying frequent power outages have affected her work, finances and mental health.

She said the unreliable power supply had caused people to miss job interviews and foreign work opportunities, while forcing her to find alternative places to charge her laptop when working under deadlines.

“I would literally go to a friend’s house to go and charge my laptop so that I’ll be able to write and submit amidst deadlines,” she said.

According to her, electricity supply in her area had become so unreliable that they sometimes got power only about five times in a month.

“In a month, we only get lights like five times and even if they bring the lights, you see how shit these stupid lights is. Even when they bring it, it is so low it can’t power anything,” she said in a video shared on X.

She also said the situation had affected her ability to create content, particularly makeup and fashion videos, because of the heat when there was no electricity.

“I don’t create as much makeup videos or even fashion videos because why would it be crazy? I’d be sweating like a she-goat,” she said.

She further complained about the financial burden of using fuel to power her activities, saying she was already struggling financially.

“Mind you, I am literally basically almost unemployed because how much am I getting in a month? I brought out from that money to buy fuel,” she said.

She said the situation had also taken a toll on her mental health and expressed frustration with Nigeria.

“This place is fucking with my mental health. It is fucking with my capacity. It is fucking with the life that I know I want for myself. I just hate this country,” she said.
