True resilience of Ghana’s economy still elusive – Senyo Hosi

Convener of the OneGhana Movement and Trustee of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, Senyo Hosi, has praised the government for stabilising Ghana’s economy but stressed that more work is needed to achieve true resilience.

Speaking on Newsfile with host Sampson Lardy Anyenini, Hosi noted that President Mahama has made significant progress in stabilising the economy despite inheriting weak macroeconomic fundamentals and an unclear growth trajectory.

“The President has done well considering where we were coming from and where we are today. He has done a great job in trying to stabilise the economy because it was difficult. The macroeconomic fundamentals were extremely weak, and the path for growth was blurred. His efforts have been phenomenal,” Hosi said.

However, he warned that Ghana is not yet economically resilient.

“We need to appreciate these improvements, but we have to be modest in celebrating them. A truly resilient economy requires diversification, which we currently lack. With gold leading the economy, any drop in its price would trigger a major shock,” he explained.

Hosi urged the government to focus on production and outline clear pathways to sustainable economic growth.

“We have the ideas, but the Finance Ministry has a lot of communication to do. This is the time to start building the house. Production is essential to transform the economy,” he added.
