The Trades Union Congress (TUC) says the recent surge in revenue at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) proves there is no need to privatise the utility.
“Verified performance data indicates that ECG’s average monthly revenue collection increased from approximately GHC900 million to a record GHS1.75 billion, representing more than a 90 percent increase,” said Joshua Ansah, Secretary General of the TUC.
The union said the six-month turnaround programme between July and December 2025 also ensured regular payments to independent power producers and contributed to a more stable power supply.
“The collaboration among the union, management and government is winning the battle. There is no need to change the winning team,” the statement added.
The TUC warned that any attempt to privatize ECG or NEDCo is unjustified and potentially harmful, insisting they will resist moves that transfer control to private interests.
