Veteran Mzbel has revealed that her dependence on her phone sometimes keeps her awake until 3am, even when she knows she should put it down.
Mzbel said her phone is important for her business and daily responsibilities but has also become a source of constant distraction.
She said she can decide to put the phone down, only to pick it up again and spend another hour on it.
“I’ll tell myself that oh this is hurting you this is bad. Put it down. But okay 2 minutes I’ll put it down before I realise an hour has passed,” she told Kafui Dey in an interview.
Mzbel said the phone creates too much “noise” in her life, making it difficult to maintain the discipline needed to disconnect.
However, she said taking a shower gives her one of the few opportunities to completely separate herself from the device.
According to her, she cannot take her phone into the shower, giving her uninterrupted time to think about her life and decisions.
She said she uses that time to ask herself questions about what she has done and why certain things are happening.
“I can ask myself all the questions whilst the water is flowing,” she said.
Mzbel said the questions can include what she achieved during the day, why she did certain things and why particular situations are working in a certain way.
For her, the shower has therefore become a rare period when she can quiet her mind and reflect without the distraction of her phone.
