UG directed to reduce facility user fees for continuing and fresh students

The University of Ghana has been directed to reduce facility user fees that have been increased in the current academic year.

This was after a meeting was conveyed between the various Student Representative Council, the Minister of Education, and the Vice Chancellor of the school.

It will be recalled that student leaders in the University of Ghana protested against the 25% increase in facility user fees in the school.

They argued that the increment was a burden on students who had not planned for the increase.

The directive means that first-year students and continuing students facility-user fees will be reduced.

“I have asked the Vice Chancellor to reduce the residential facility fees by 25 percent and I have subsequently asked her to engage you (SRC) in the future on any fee announcement,”  Mr Iddrisu advised

On her part, the Vice Chancellor Prof Nana Aba Amfo promised to follow the directive and assured of further engagement with the SRC.

“We have listened to you our Minister and also our students, and we can afford to reduce it to 25 percent across the board and going forward there will be adequate student engagement,” she assured.
