WC visa controversy: Assafuah says Kofi Adams should have checked names

Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah has questioned why Sports Minister Kofi Adams did not independently verify a list of 90 people presented as event coordinators in connection with Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup arrangements.

Assafuah said the minister had previously checked with the National Sports Authority (NSA) after concerns were raised about four names submitted as NSA personnel. According to the MP, the minister was told that the four individuals were not staff of the authority.

He argued that the earlier discovery should have prompted further checks when another list of 90 names was submitted.

“If the minister failed to verify the information, then he is either complicit or has been negligent,” Assafuah said on TV3 on October 13, 2026.

The MP said he had spoken to some people connected to names on the list. He cited the case of Alex Mensah, who allegedly told him that his two sons, The Floss Danso and Samuel Okete Bokeet, had no connection to the NSA.

Assafuah claimed the two names appeared on the list despite their alleged lack of association with the authority.

He argued that the minister should not simply have forwarded the list without checking whether the people listed were genuinely connected to the NSA or had legitimate roles in the World Cup arrangements.

Assafuah’s comments raise questions about the verification process behind the list. The claims about the individuals and the circumstances.
