We need answers on teacher manuals’ LGBTQ content – Old Tafo MP to parliament

During Friday’s parliamentary session, MP for Old Tafo Vincent Ekow Assafuah drew attention to teacher manuals used across the country, highlighting what he described as tendencies toward LGBTQ content.

“On the 20th of January, 2026, the Minority Leader, the Deputy Minority Leader and my good self made an application to the Speaker of Parliament,” Assafuah said.

“The motion requested a half-hour discussion to investigate how and why teacher manuals for basic schools and senior high schools contain tendencies of LGBTQ.”

He added that the Speaker had referred the application to the Education Committee.

“We were expecting that at least it would find expression in the Business Committee’s statement,” he said.

“As we speak, I know that the Majority Leader himself is not interested in bringing this matter to the floor.

“The only voice of conscience left is the Speaker of Parliament, and I hope that will not be lost on us.”

The MP called for careful parliamentary engagement to ensure the issue is thoroughly examined and the public informed.
