Jerome Opoku has explained Ghana’s defensive plan after helping the Black Stars hold England to a 0-0 draw in an important World Cup match.
The defender played a major role in Ghana’s disciplined performance, which kept Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and England’s other attacking players quiet throughout the Group L game.
England had most of the possession but found it difficult to create clear scoring chances as Ghana followed their game plan very well.
Opoku said the Black Stars were fully prepared for the challenge.
“We prepared for what they had, we saw their quality, their attacking quality, the runs, and I think we just defended really well,” he said.
Although many people expected England to dominate Ghana, Opoku said he always believed in his team.
“I wouldn’t say surprised because I’d be doubting myself,” he said when asked about England’s struggles.”
“They’re a good team, and they tried their best, we tried our best, and the result speaks for itself.”
