Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, has called for continuity and stability in Ghana’s cocoa pricing arrangements, stressing the importance of long-term cooperation in the sector.
He said past collaboration between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire laid the foundation for current policies and should be protected to support farmers.
He referenced earlier agreements under the previous administration, saying the framework was designed to ensure consistency in cocoa pricing and policy direction.
“The pricing window should have been maintained because of that collaboration that we have had over the years from the previous government,” he said.
Dr. Danquah noted that cocoa remains a key economic sector and warned that policy disruptions could affect farmers who depend on stable pricing structures.
He also acknowledged ongoing government efforts but urged that such initiatives remain consistent with earlier agreements.
“Our farmers are important to us,” he stated.
He added that cooperation between successive governments is necessary for the sustainability of the cocoa industry.
“We are very pleased about that,” he said, referring to continued policy implementation.
According to him, maintaining established frameworks is important for both producers and national economic planning.
