We want our own home – Bagbin appeals for dedicated parliamentary complex

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has formally requested the acquisition of land near the State House to establish a permanent home for Parliament.

Speaking at the launch of Parliament’s Corporate Strategic Plan for 2026 to 2030 on Thursday, Bagbin said the current arrangement has placed limitations on the work of the House.

He described Parliament’s status as tenants within the State House enclave as restrictive.

“We have been crying, and I hope you will support us so that at least we should be liberated from being tenants of the State House to our own premises as an arm of government,” he said.

According to the Speaker, infrastructural challenges continue to affect parliamentary operations.

He noted that certain facilities within the enclave are not freely accessible to Parliament.

“Some of the structures we have here, we cannot even have access to them unless we pay, including the banquet hall,” he stated.

Bagbin said a formal request has already been forwarded to the Executive for a parcel of land close to the current location.

He stressed that as an independent arm of government, Parliament requires a purpose-built complex to function effectively and symbolise institutional autonomy.
