When you are caught, the law will deal with you – Bonaa reacts to Kristo Asafo shooting

Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Dr. Adam Bonaa, has said that Ghana’s laws prohibit the display of firearms without prior approval from the Inspector General of Police.

His comments follow reports of gunfire at a Kristo Asafo property in Kwabenya during the installation Israel Kwadwo Safo as leader of the church following the d3ath of founder Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The incident also involved former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, who was reportedly injured and is receiving medical treatment. Police have since opened an investigation into the incident.

Speaking on the legal requirements governing firearms, Bonaa said even ceremonial firing and public displays of guns are regulated by law.

“You cannot display firearms without permission from the Inspector General of Police,” he said.

He added that anyone intending to use a firearm must ensure that the weapon is legally registered.

“Anyone who wants to use a weapon must ensure the weapon is legally registered to them,” he stated.

Bonaa also warned that violations of the law carry legal consequences.

“When you are caught, the law will deal with you as stipulated by the law,” he said.
