Tensions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have heightened weeks ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, following threats by the campaign team of Dr Bryan Acheampong in the Northern Region to disrupt the internal elections.
The concerns were raised during an interview on The Pulse on JoyNews, where the campaign team accused some party executives of attempting to coerce delegates into voting in a particular direction.
“The NPP has always prided itself on being a democratic party,” a member of Dr Acheampong’s campaign team stated.
He warned that any form of interference in the voting process could undermine the party’s core principles.
“Any attempt by party executives to compel delegates to vote in a particular direction runs contrary to our values and risks eroding confidence in the entire process,” he added.
The campaign team expressed strong dissatisfaction with what they described as undue influence being exerted on delegates, stressing that the party must uphold fairness and transparency in its internal elections.
According to them, the alleged actions could compromise the credibility of the primaries if not addressed urgently.
They further threatened to disrupt the elections in the Northern Region should the situation persist, insisting that party leadership must act to protect the integrity of the process.
