MP Dr. Clement Apaak has stated that he does not believe there has been any breach of the law in the handling of former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo’s resignation from the Council of State.
Speaking on JoyNews, the Builsa South MP referred to comments by the government’s spokesperson, who said Akuffo submitted her resignation in September 2025.
According to Apaak, the Presidency delayed accepting the resignation after members of the Council of State sought an opportunity to engage her and determine whether any concerns could be addressed.
“The intent was to see whether she would have rescinded her decision,” he said.
Apaak noted that those efforts did not change her position and that she maintained her decision to resign.
He said the timing of the public disclosure of the matter should not be interpreted as evidence of wrongdoing.
“Whether it is late or it is early, I don’t believe that the situation can cause any breach of any law or there is an indication of any infraction,” he stated.
Apaak added that, based on the available information, the matter does not point to any legal concerns surrounding the resignation process.
