You remand TikTok users for two weeks – Ekua Amoakoh slams govt

Dr Ekua Amoakoh, spokesperson for NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised the government’s response to sexual abuse allegations against Obuasi Senior High Technical School headmaster Zakaria Abdulai.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Dr Amoakoh said she expected a stronger and more urgent response from the government and security agencies.

“I do not see the kind of urgency I would have liked from the government and the security agencies with handling this matter,” she said.

She compared the treatment of the headmaster, who has been granted self-recognisance bail, to that of people arrested over their activities on TikTok.

“If the government is able to show that kind of force over something that I can call very menial, I would have expected a really tough approach on this,” she said.

“Somebody who’s on TikTok, you’re able to remand them for two weeks, but you give somebody that has allegedly defiled 44 students in his care a self-recognisance bail,” she added.

Dr Amoakoh also expressed concern over reports that as many as 44 students may have suffered abuse, describing the figure as worrying, particularly because sexual abuse involving minors often goes unreported.

She called for a more decisive response to the allegations against the headmaster.
