Zero initiatives, no leadership – Minority criticizes cancellation of 1D1F

The Minority in Parliament has expressed disappointment over the government’s lack of progress on promised public sector reforms.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin spoke at a press briefing on Monday, February 3, noting that the ministry responsible for these reforms appears inactive.

“They promised public sector reforms, but so far, the minister responsible for public sector reform cannot be found.

“We have not seen any major announcement, even in the budget, as if that ministry is non-existent,” Afenyo-Markin said, questioning the government’s commitment to improving efficiency and accountability in the public sector.

He also raised concerns about broader economic policies, noting the cancellation of the 1D1F initiative without any alternative plan for private sector growth.

“I have not heard the Minister of Trade and Industry announcing a major private sector initiative to create economic growth, zero, yet they have cancelled the 1D1F,” he added.

The Minority stressed that without clear leadership and tangible interventions, public sector reform remains stalled.

Afenyo-Markin’s remarks indicate a growing impatience among opposition lawmakers, who say that promises must now translate into concrete actions.
