Ablakwa announces safe evacuation of Ghana’s Embassy staff from Iran

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that Ghana has successfully evacuated all its embassy staff from Iran following the escalation of hostilities between Iran and the United States.

“I am delighted to announce that we have conducted a successful evacuation of all our embassy staff in Iran. The Ghanaian diplomats are safe and in high spirits,” he stated.

He further confirmed that Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Tehran has been shut indefinitely.

“Ghana’s embassy in Iran is now closed sine die. The safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaians remains our utmost priority in these tempestuous times. For God and Country,” he added.

The evacuation comes amid ongoing military exchanges between Iran and the United States. Recent joint US-Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian military and government facilities, including sites in Tehran.

Iranian state media confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and reported more than 200 fatalities and over 700 injuries.

Iran subsequently launched missile and drone strikes targeting locations hosting US military assets in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

Authorities in those countries reported interceptions of incoming projectiles, and several temporarily closed their airspace as a precaution.
