Akwatia MP Says Sedina’s legal fight predates change of government

Lawyer and a member of the NDC, Bernard Bediako Baidoo says attempts to portray Sedina Attionu’s appeal as a post-election legal manoeuvre ignore key facts.

According to him, Attionu’s lawyers moved quickly after her conviction, filing an appeal months before the current administration assumed office.

“The appeal was filed on May 9, 2024. It is not the case that it was filed after the change of government,” he said on Newsfile on JoyNews.

Baidoo explained that legal disputes over whether Attionu could pursue an appeal while outside Ghana contributed to delays.

“A lot happened. The Attorney General even challenged the appeal and argued that because she was not in the jurisdiction, she couldn’t properly instruct lawyers,” he said.

His argument was simple: whatever people think about Attionu’s guilt or innocence, the judicial process has been active from the beginning.

“It is within her right. Nobody can take that right away from her.”
