Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has questioned why Zoomlion continues to dominate Ghana’s sanitation sector despite persistent waste management challenges.
Speaking on years of reporting on the company, Manasseh argued that Ghana’s sanitation problems remain unresolved even though Zoomlion has held a dominant position in the sector since 2006.
“Since 2006 till now one company has monopolised our sanitation sector and it is still the same problem. So how do they justify their continuous stay?” he asked.
Manasseh said the issue is not merely whether the company holds contracts but whether it is delivering results.
“If Zoomlion had those contracts and they were doing them we wouldn’t have any problem,” he stated.
He further pointed to waste containers that remain uncleared in some communities.
“We’ve seen Zoomlion containers that are full and are not lifted. The question is what is the company doing?” he said.
According to him, the continued existence of sanitation challenges raises legitimate questions about the company’s long-term role in the sector.
