Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has questioned the influence of powerful business interests on media coverage of sanitation-related investigations.
In his letter to President John Dramani Mahama, he said some companies have significant influence over media organisations.
“Aside from the government, some businesses have considerable influence in the media,” he said.
He singled out the sanitation sector as an area where media independence can be affected by commercial relationships.
According to him, such influence has previously shaped how investigations are published or suppressed.
He also cited past experiences involving resistance to critical reporting on sanitation-related contracts and projects.
