Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku has questioned why the Ministers responsible for Transport and the Interior were not invited to President John Dramani Mahama’s high-level meeting on border security and narcotics control.
Awuku said the heads of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Ghana Shippers Authority and Ghana Airports Company Limited, which fall under the Transport Ministry, were invited without the sector Minister.
He also asked why the Ghana Police Service and Narcotics Control Commission, both under the Ministry of the Interior, would attend without the Interior Minister.
“Are we creating another layer of coordination when the Ministers who have direct responsibility for these institutions are not at the table?” Awuku asked on social media.
He said Ghana’s growing concern about being used as a transit point for illicit drugs should not be treated as an “optics exercise”.
Awuku also questioned who would supervise and drive the implementation of decisions reached at the meeting.
“Mr. President, respectfully, please let us take this matter seriously for a moment,” he said.
