The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Emelia Agbenyo as a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, citing her alleged affiliation with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement issued on October 13, 2026, and signed by its National Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the NPP argued that Agbenyo’s previous role as the NDC’s governance sector spokesperson during preparations for its 2024 manifesto raised concerns about her neutrality.
The party called on President Mahama to withdraw the appointment and urged the Council of State to explain the advice it gave on the matter.
