JUSAG declares indefinite strike from November 2 over delayed salary review approval

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has declared an indefinite strike from Monday, November 2, 2026, after months of unsuccessful attempts to secure approval for its members’ 2026 salary review.

The association has directed all Judicial Service staff to stay home until the government meets its demands and further instructions are issued.

JUSAG announced the decision at a press conference on Friday, October 30, saying it had given the government until that day to approve the salary recommendations and ensure payment of the revised salaries in November, together with arrears covering January to October 2026.

The association said its National Executive Council decided to take industrial action after repeated appeals to the government failed to produce the expected results.

It explained that the salary review process began in December 2025, when it submitted proposals to the Judicial Council in accordance with Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution and the Judicial Service Regulations, 2025.

Although the Judicial Council completed its work and submitted its recommendations to President John Dramani Mahama, approval from the Office of the President remained outstanding.

JUSAG said it had pursued the matter through several engagements, including appeals at its delegates’ conference in Tamale, a staff durbar at the Tema High Court and the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana conference in Accra.

The association also notified the National Labour Commission on October 23 of its intention to strike if the October 30 deadline was not met.

However, it rejected the Commission’s intervention, which gave the Ministry of Jobs, Labour and Employment Relations until November 6 to convene a meeting with stakeholders and submit a report.

JUSAG argued that the November 6 deadline fell beyond the ultimatum it had already given the government, leaving it with no reason to postpone its planned strike.
