Fiifi Kwetey outlines Mahama government’s next economic priority after restoring stability

NDC General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey has disclosed that the Mahama government is preparing a new economic initiative aimed at promoting inclusive growth across different sectors and levels of the Ghanaian economy.

He said the administration’s immediate priority had been to restore stability, but its next focus would be to translate that stability into growth and ensure that development resources reach communities across the country.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Kwetey said Ghanaians would see the new initiative in the budget expected in the coming weeks.

“We are working to ensure that, first and foremost, we bring the necessary stability, which largely you’ve seen. Then, on the back of that stability, we want to push forward to ensure that there is proper growth,” he said.

“That’s why, for example, in the budget that’s going to be coming in the couple of weeks ahead of us, you’re going to see a new initiative talking about what we call a new economy that is going to be much more towards bringing real inclusive growth at different levels of the economy,” he added.

Kwetey also pointed to ongoing road projects and the distribution of resources to districts as evidence of the government’s approach to spreading development beyond the national level.

He contrasted this with the previous NPP administration, which he accused of concentrating resources at the national level and weakening local governance.

“You see a massive effort going on under the road sector. You see the amount of resources going to every district of our country, as opposed to what happened under the NPP, where literally all resources were kept at the national level,” he said.
