Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, says the speed of Abu Trica’s extradition should be considered alongside questions about due process.
Tameklo said legal procedures should remain an important part of extradition proceedings.
“Regrettable as the due process mechanism may have been truncated, we want to do a balancing act to see whether the swift extradition is worth it,” he said.
He added that countries which advocate the rule of law are also expected to uphold due process.
“America evangelises due process and rule of law. Even in America, due process is respected,” Tameklo stated on The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, July 11.
His comments come after Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, was extradited to the United States to face charges on an alleged romance fraud case.
