AG moves to set aside court order allowing Hanan Aludiba to travel for medical treatment

The Attorney General has filed an application at the High Court to set aside an order allowing Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the first accused in the Buffer Stock case, to travel to the United Kingdom for specialist medical treatment.

In an update shared by the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), the Attorney General said the application was based on new developments that emerged after the court granted the travel request on June 29, 2026.

“The Application has been necessitated by material facts and subsequent developments that came to the attention of the Prosecution after the Court granted the travel request,” the statement said.

The Attorney General said the new information “fundamentally alters the basis upon which the Court exercised its discretion” in granting the order.

According to the state, Mr Aludiba allegedly attempted to access funds held in bank accounts that remain frozen under orders obtained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The statement said, “The relevant financial institution declined the attempted withdrawal and notified the investigative authorities.”

The Attorney General further stated that the alleged attempt occurred shortly before Mr Aludiba was expected to leave Ghana, raising concerns about compliance with existing court orders and the possibility of him failing to return for trial.

“It is the position of the Attorney General that these material facts which were not before the Court when the travel order was made may materially influence the Court’s decision regarding its order granting leave for the first accused to travel outside the jurisdiction,” the statement added.

The Office emphasised that the application forms part of legal procedures available when circumstances change after a court order and does not determine the outcome of the criminal case.

“The first accused continues to enjoy the constitutional presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction,” it stated.

Mr Aludiba has since been granted bail by EOCO.
