New Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has confirmed he will continue to select Cristiano Ronaldo for the national team, provided the veteran forward remains fit and available for selection.
Jesus made the remarks during his official unveiling, insisting the 41-year-old will never be a problem for either him or the Portugal squad.
Ronaldo came under heavy criticism during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with some questioning whether his presence held the team back after Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16.
Following the defeat, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed it would be his final World Cup but stopped short of announcing his retirement from international football.
“As long as he’s playing and is in a condition to be selected, I will pick him, within certain limits and under the conditions that I consider best for the national team,” Jesus told reporters.
“I haven’t spoken with Cris yet… Cris is never going to be a problem for the national team. Not for the national team, nor for me.”
