The time has come to say goodbye – Gideon Mensah to AJ Auxerre

Ghana international Gideon Mensah has bid an emotional farewell to French club AJ Auxerre following the end of his four-year stay.

The 27-year-old left-back leaves the Ligue 1 side as a free agent after his contract expired at the end of the 2025/26 season.

During his time at Auxerre, Mensah made 108 appearances in all competitions, providing four assists while playing a key role in the club’s promotion to Ligue 1 and helping them secure their top-flight status.

The defender took to social media to thank the club, his teammates, staff and supporters for their support throughout his time in France.

“After four unforgettable years, the time has come to say goodbye. Leaving this club with a heart filled with gratitude. Wearing this jersey has been a real honor, and I have always given my all for this emblem.

“To my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone in the shadows: Thank you for your trust, support and helping me grow as a player and person. To the supporters, thank you for being with me from day one.

“Your passion, loyalty, and unwavering support have made every moment even more special. I will always treasure the moments we shared.

“As I embark on a new chapter, I leave with nothing but respect, appreciation and love for this club. It will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for four incredible years. This is not goodbye, but see you soon.”

Mensah is now expected to complete a move to Bundesliga side FC Köln after travelling to Germany during the current summer transfer window.
