Asah-Asante questions why bystanders chose to record teacher assault case instead of intervene

Political Scientist, Kwame Asah-Asante has criticised the conduct of bystanders who recorded the assault at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School instead of intervening to stop it.

Speaking on Joy News, he said one of the most troubling aspects of the incident was the apparent willingness of people to watch and film while the situation escalated.

“Why is it that nobody stopped this? They were watching. Rather they pulled their phones and they were recording,” he said.

The political scientist argued that this behaviour is becoming increasingly common and reflects a worrying shift in social attitudes.

“It’s becoming a habit. One too many in this country.”

According to him, people are often more focused on capturing dramatic footage than preventing harm.

“Imagine somebody had pulled a knife in this. I tell you, they could still stand by and watch for somebody to die.”

Dr Asah-Asante maintained that preserving life should always take priority over obtaining videos.

“The video, no, we may not necessarily need a video. We need people alive.”
