Black Stars coach Otto Addo has voiced concerns regarding the condition of the pitch at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, where Ghana is set to begin its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier campaign against Angola on September 5.
Addo made his remarks during a press conference on August 29, during which he stressed that the quality of the playing surface is crucial for optimal player performance.
Despite authorities’ assurances that the stadium would be ready for the match, Addo expressed unease about the current state of the pitch.
“It is worrying because, to play the way we intend, a good pitch is necessary,” Addo said.
“Discussions are ongoing about how we can improve the situation. We want our players to excel, so we must ensure the pitch is in the best possible condition.”
Ghana will also face Niger at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco on September 9 as part of their AFCON qualification campaign.
In addition to addressing immediate concerns, Addo emphasized the need for long-term improvements in football infrastructure across the country.
“We need to develop more football facilities and increase play opportunities.
More stadia in various regions are essential for enhancing the quality of football in Ghana,” he added.
