Chelsea boss confirms one player will miss Bournemouth clash

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Jamie Gittens will miss the team’s Premier League match against Bournemouth due to injury.

Alonso also gave an update on the fitness of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro, Reece James and Marco Palestra ahead of the game.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Alonso said, “Gittens is not going to be fit for tomorrow. He picked up an injury in his ankle during the international break and is going to be out for a few weeks.

“Yes, Moises Caicedo is ready to go. We have used the time with Moi to get him back fit. He has been training well, and he is okay to go.

“They [Reece James, Marco Palestra, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro] have all been able to train, some of them earlier than others – and Marco Palestra as well. That was the plan.

“Palmer has trained for the last week and has felt better. We didn’t want to rush because we had the time.”
