CK Akonnor wins big in Kenyan Premier League

Former Ghana captain and coach Charles “CK” Akonnor has achieved another major success in his football career after being named the Kenyan Premier League Coach of the Season.

The award follows an excellent first season in charge of Gor Mahia, where he guided the club to a record 22nd league title.

Akonnor took over the Kenyan club, popularly known as K’Ogalo, in August 2025 after a disappointing season in which the team failed to win a major trophy.

The league title was confirmed on May 24, 2026, when Gor Mahia’s closest rivals, AFC Leopards, dropped important points against APS Bomet.

The result officially crowned Gor Mahia champions with two matches left to play, highlighting their strong performances throughout the season.

Under Akonnor, Gor Mahia collected 68 points, with the team’s success built on tactical flexibility, a strong defence, and effective counter-attacking football.
