Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has expressed concern about the difficulty of monitoring vote buying during internal party elections.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary, Ashie Moore said controlling such practices remains a major challenge for party leadership.
“For vote buying, how can you monitor it? How can you control it?” he asked.
“There are over 1,000 delegates here. As a Regional Chairman, National Chairman or General Secretary, what can you do?
“Do you know what the aspirant is doing in his bedroom?”
He noted that modern financial systems make it harder to track illegal inducements.
“Today MOMO is available and so is bank transfer. It is everywhere,” he said. “It is very difficult to look at.”
Despite the concerns, Ashie Moore said he had not personally witnessed any wrongdoing at the polling centre. “I haven’t seen it. It is just hearsay,” he stated.
He, however, called on political parties to take collective responsibility in addressing the issue.
“I think all the political parties should work on it,” he added.
