The Ministry of Education has directed the Ghana Police Service to conduct an urgent investigation into a shooting incident at Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Primary School in Yendi, where two armed men reportedly entered the school and fired gunshots.
The Ministry said the incident caused panic among pupils and staff, while preliminary reports indicate that the school’s headmaster was assaulted and injured. The motive for the attack is yet to be established.
The Ministry said Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has instructed the police to identify and arrest those responsible.
“Acts of violence, intimidation and the use of firearms on school premises are unacceptable and constitute a grave threat to the safety and well-being of learners, teachers and the entire educational community,” the Ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry reiterated that schools must remain safe spaces for teaching and learning and cautioned the public against activities that disrupt education or compromise the safety of school environments.
It also expressed support for the injured headmaster, pupils and staff of Zohe EP Primary School, wished the headmaster a speedy recovery, and assured parents that it would continue working with security agencies to strengthen safety in schools across the country.
