Ghana’s Ministry of Education has ordered the suspension of SHS graduation ceremonies.
A statement from the Ministry said the Director General for the Ghana Education Service has been ordered to halt all graduation ceremonies pending a review of guidelines guiding these ceremonies.
Heads of Schools that allow such exorbitant after-WASSCE celebrations will be sanctioned.
The ministry used the opportunity to condemn conduct by students, parents and guardians that promotes extravagance and distracts from the true purpose of school ceremonies.
The statement comes on the back of some parents celebrating their children by gifting them with cars and money bouquets after the completion of their WASSCE.
Social media users have condemned the move by the parents, indicating that they are introducing classism into the various public schools in the country.
