Managing legal practitioner Gloria Ofori-Boadu has called attention to the discontinuation of several high-profile court cases, saying the issue deserves further examination.
Speaking on Joy News, she referred to a number of cases that were withdrawn before the courts and questioned the circumstances under which such decisions are made.
“First, there’s something that I looked at. That’s the discontinuation or withdrawal of several high-profile cases,” she said.
She cited a number of matters, including cases involving Atufo Sinjapa, Dr. Steven Opuni, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Dr. Ernest Thompson and others.
According to Ofori-Boadu, the determination of guilt or innocence should remain the responsibility of the courts after due process has been followed.
“These are all fine gentlemen before the court. It’s for the court to decide and to determine after going through due process to find out whether they are guilty or not guilty, irrespective of their partisanship,” she said.
She also suggested that the Attorney General should take a closer look at the pattern of discontinued cases.
“Why should some people be before the judiciary, trial court, in our jurisdiction and then suddenly their government comes into power and then the case is discontinued?” she asked.
