Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah faced an unexpected encounter with an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) official on Wednesday after appearing at the Accra High Court for Salomey Baffoe’s bail hearing.
A video obtained by Adomonline.com showed the Manhyia South MP in a heated exchange with a woman said to be an EOCO official. The woman had blocked his car, and the visibly angry lawyer pushed her aside before getting into his vehicle and driving away.
The development caused confusion at the court after Ms Baffoe’s lawyers indicated that EOCO had invited their lead counsel. The reason for the invitation remains unclear.
The court later adjourned Ms Baffoe’s bail application to Thursday, September 24, after the prosecution asked for more time to respond.
The defence opposed the adjournment, arguing that the case concerned Ms Baffoe’s liberty and required urgency. The court directed the prosecution to file and serve its response by 9:00 a.m. ahead of Thursday’s hearing.
Awuah has led Ms Baffoe’s defence since her arrest and has challenged aspects of the case against her.
Ms Baffoe faces a charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news, linked to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account. She has pleaded not guilty.
Police allege that she assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom they identify as the operator of the account, in distributing online content and recruiting others to circulate it. The defence has rejected the allegations.
