A member of NPP communication team, Lawyer Kwesi Botchway Jnr has demanded answers from the government over officials he says were allegedly implicated in a cocaine interception in Australia.
Kwesi referred to the June 18, 2026 cocaine bust in Australia involving a consignment from Ghana and said the Interior Minister had told Parliament’s Assurance Committee that some government officials had been implicated.
He questioned why those officials had not been publicly identified.
“The Minister of Interior went to Parliament’s Assurance Committee to tell Parliament and the whole world that some government officials have actually been implicated in this Australian cocaine bust,” he said on Joy News.
“Now the question is, where are these government officials? Why are they hiding these government officials?”
Kwesi also questioned what he described as a contrast between the handling of this case and other investigations announced publicly by government officials.
He specifically referred to public announcements of investigations by the CID boss and Attorney General and asked why similar disclosure had not been made regarding the officials allegedly implicated in the Australia case.
“Why haven’t they exercised the same discretion in announcing the government officials who have been implicated in the Australian cocaine bust?” he asked.
Kwesi said the public needed to understand what had happened and whether there was any connection between the alleged involvement of government officials and the wider cocaine problem.
“Is it a case that there is some form of complicity with the government? Is it a case? We have to understand exactly what is happening,” he said.
His comments were part of a broader call for greater accountability over the series of drug interceptions involving Ghana.
