The Parliament of Ghana has confirmed that no casualties were reported in a fire that affected the Job 600 building early on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
The blaze, which damaged a storeroom, was extinguished by the Ghana National Fire Service.
Emergency services, with their swift response, quickly evacuated staff and workers to designated assembly points, ensuring safety.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing to assess the extent of the damage.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Parliament expressed its gratitude to the firefighters for their swift and effective response.
The statement assured the public that, while the full extent of the damage remains undetermined, the building is safe for future use and there were no casualties.
As a precaution, in consultation with Speaker Alban Bagbin, the Clerk to Parliament has directed that all Members of Parliament and staff vacate the building for the day.
They are expected to return on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. A minimal staff presence will remain on-site to handle urgent matters.
Investigations into the cause and impact of the fire are ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
