Flood victims are paying for political neglect – Jantuah

CPP’s Kwame Jantuah believes Ghana’s political class has failed to treat flooding as a national priority despite the damage it causes every year.

Reacting to recent floods in Accra, he questioned why flooding rarely features prominently in election campaigns and party manifestos.

“Tell me which party manifesto talks about flooding in the city or flooding in Ghana,” he said on TV3’s New Day.

According to Jantuah, politicians often focus on issues that bring immediate political gains while long-term problems such as drainage, urban planning and disaster prevention receive little attention.

He argued that floods destroy property, displace families and threaten lives, yet discussions about preventive measures often disappear once the rains stop.

Jantuah called for a national consensus that places flood prevention above partisan politics.

“The politics that tends to go with it should stop because this is an issue that affects everybody,” he stated.
